Woody biomass regional circulation model project

Yusuhara Town, located near the source of the Shimanto River, is a town where 90% of the area is forest and with a population of about 4,000 people. It began utilizing the forces of nature roughly 10 years ago. The profits of windmills installed on Shikoku Karst, have resulted in the installation of solar power to 1 in 20 houses, and the development over about 6,000 hectares of forest that serves as a CO2 sink. In addition, wood pellet production through the cooperation among the public and business sectors has created a new resource recycling mechanism. "Yusuhara, the town above the clouds," is promoting a low-carbon, town development that is friendly to living creatures.
